July 26, 2008
We have been at the Franklin farm near Gering, NE since last Sunday. We have a beautiful camping space right next to the cornfield. Cash’s corn is extremely tall this year as you can see in the picture. Cash is 6′2″ tall and the corn is taller than he is. We have had lots of thunderstorms, lightning and rain which is unusual for July but they are happy to get it. However, some of the farms in the area have lost their crops because of the severe storms. From our bed we can see the tall corn swaying back and forth which reminds me of hula girls dancing in Hawaii. Deanna and I went with with her friends on a day trip to Estes Park in Colorado and to Bear Lake. Beautiful country which I want to explore much more with Gary some time. My books arrived as well as our Solar Panel which Gary will install next week. We did find out our problem with the battery not charging while we are driving. The people at Power Chevrolet didn’t bother to put in the fuse that should be there. We are happy to have the solar panel as well as we plan to spend time in places where we wouldn’t drive the car to charge the battery. Cash and Deanna are trying to sell their farm so they can move to Sun City permanently. We have done some sightseeing in the area and have seen Chimney Rock and Scotts Bluff and a lot of the towns Gering and Scotts Bluff. Scotts Bluff trail is pretty strenuous so we walked it up and got a ride back down. Next week we will walk it both ways. We have decided to stay another week as this will give Gary plenty of time to install the solar panel. Next week we are going to Gillette, WY to tour the coal mines.
